The University of Southampton is a member of the Russell Group of Universities a group of research universities. Southampton University has the second largest research income among British universities for the maths and physical sciences and it has the third largest research income for technology and engineering.
The University campus is situated in the Portiswood area of Southampton which is just outside of the City centre.
